The Rural Press Club of Victoria's 2010 Rural Journalism & Photography Awards recognise excellence in agricultural and rural journalism & photography, in both the print and electronic media.

It is open to all journalists and photographers who have covered
rural issues in Victoria and the Riverina in 2009-10.

The entries are currently being judged and winners will be announced at our annual gala dinner on Friday 27 August.

2009 RPCV Journalism and Photography Awards

Over 130 guests gathered at the Hilton on the Park, East Melbourne on Friday, 28 August for the annual 2009 rural and regional journalism and photography awards dinner.

The 2009 Journalist of the Year award went to Greg Best, of The Standard, Warrnambool, for his remarkable series of stories covering the State Government threat to ban jumps racing in Victoria.

The 2009 Photographer of the Year was awarded to Alex Ellinghausen from The Advertiser, Bendigo. His series of 12 black and white photographs poignantly captured the emotion of Anzac Day 2009 and his focus on one old digger, Norm Smart.

The Cadet of the Year award was presented to Jessica Craven from the Geelong Advertiser for her special feature story on Hailey Begg.

The judges also awarded a Special Award to Zoe Phillips at the Weekly Times for a supplement on 'Dogs'. The judges said Zoe's images demonstrated pathos, humour, action and plenty of canine character.
